OUR SERVICES
GAS SERVICES
For gas service needs we can install, repair, disconnect and hook up gas lines, and gas appliances. We can also hook up pressure regulators and provide air tests. It is helpful to know when calling to set up an appointment if you have high or low pressure gas, natural or LP gas, and any BTU ratings. (This is the British Thermal Units and is a measurement of energy). This information should be on all appliances that you would like installed. Permits, inspections and tests may be required to ensure that your gas piping is up to code and leak free.
WATER PIPING/SUPPLY
Many homes need water piping replaced, especially if it is older galvanized or iron piping. If low water pressure or leaks have occurred , the situation can be corrected, just call us so that we can have someone come out and give you an evaluation on where your water piping could best be replaced and pricing options. Generally, this includes, but is not limited to all the water piping to each fixture, water meter service and outside hose bibs. This is also a great time to add any fixtures or service supplies that you may need in the future.
FROZEN PIPES
In Minnesota and Wisconsin, when the weather is bitter cold, pipes may freeze. Sometimes we can solve the problem with pipe thawing, but repairs may be needed if the ice brakes the pipes. If you have frozen pipes the first thing to do is turn your water off, that way if they do thaw they will not flood your home.
OUTSIDE FAUCETS
Outside hose bibs and silcocks for the hose hook ups sometimes require service, especially in the Spring and Fall. Many of these devices have inside stops that can be used when repair or service is needed. When replacement or new installation is necessary, most cities require freeze safe hydrants with a potable water protection device to be included. Proper maintenance is important so that water does not freeze inside the faucet causing it to break.
WATER METERS
Each city and municipality has its own rules and determination on how their water meters are installed and serviced. If you would like to contact your local water supplier, they will inform you whether you own or rent your meter, or if the utilities actually own it. Once the water couplings are set up, with the cities' permission, we can install the meter and run the line to the outside reading device.
RPZ TESTING/MAINTENANCE
If you require an RPZ test, repair or installation, Zell Plumbing is Certified and Bonded with the State of Minnesota. The RPZ is basically part of the new defense against potable water contamination, which the State of Minnesota and International Plumbing Code is adopting. These three-check, back pressure devices help keep your drinking water safe from pesticides, toxins and other contaminates. What you will want to do is get the RPZ tested every year and rebuilt every five years. There is important information on the valve that would be helpful to have when you call for service. The RPZ may be required to be tested and registered.
REFRIGERATORS/ICE MAKERS
Refrigerator and ice maker hook-ups are best coordinated with the delivery, so that you know you have the correct appliance before the service technicians arrives to install a water supply to the refrigerator.
DISHWASHER INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENTS
Some of the newer, water saver styles have certain features which make them a little more difficult to install and sometimes require a modification to the appliance hook-ups under the kitchen sink cabinet.
GARBAGE DISPOSALS
We install garbage disposals, either one you have provided or one can be provided for you.
WATER FILTRATION
Water filters come in many styles and qualities. Just a few examples are reverse osmosis, which is considered to produce the purest water, but is also the most expensive to buy and install. It also wastes three gallons or water for one gallon of filtered water produced. Probably the least effective is a granulated carbon filter for ice or drinking water that filters taste and odor, but no lead. Our suggestion is that you research products and purchase one that fits your needs and call us for installation.
LAUNDRY
Laundry room updates may include moving and installing laundry tubs, which can be floor or wall mounted and repairing or installing laundry tub faucets. These types of updates can also include boiler drains for washing machine hook ups, gas flues for dryers or maybe even relocating your laundry room to a new area.
WASHING MACHINES
Washing machine hook ups will consist of two (2) boiler drains, one hot and one cold. These faucets are used to supply the water to hoses from the back of the washer. The washing machine then discharges out of a 1" hose, indirectly into a receptacle, which can be either a laundry tub, stand pipe or washer box.
WATER SOFTENERS
We install water softeners, but generally do not service them. If you have a repair or replacement issue of a party on your water softener, contact the manufacturer for service. An install or change out can be done to ensure water piping is correct in your home.
WATER HEATERS
Water heaters come in many styles, sizes and applications. There are instantaneous water heaters that hook up to gas and electricity, there are also electric water heaters with 6 to 100 gallon capacity. There are high efficiency gas or standard gas, natural or LP gas that can be replaced with eh style you currently have. Because there are so many varieties it is helpful to know what style you currently have and what you would like to replace it with. Please call for pricing.
SHOWER EQUIPMENT
Hand held sprayers and shower equipment are additions that are sometimes purchased by homeowners after the initial installation of shower faucets. These fixtures can be helpful and very convenient when using shower or whirlpools. Please call us and we would be happy to install one for you.
DRAIN CLEANING
Drain cleaning that is on 2" or smaller drains can be performed on most drains if they are in sound condition and properly installed. Some drains may be more effectively repaired by being replaced, especially lead or galvanized pipe.
PUMPS
Sump pumps are used to remove water that can accumulate below grade and needs to be pumped so it can drain away by gravity. Sewage ejectors are normally used to remove sanitary waste from a basket under the floor and lift the effluent up to a gravity drain. Most pumps require a check valve and/or gate valve and some need venting. Before calling for service on a pump, check the power or circuit breakers.
KITCHEN/BATHROOM REMODELS
Kitchen and bathroom remodels may be simple, such as faucet or sink replacement or as difficult as a remodel or relocation of drains, wastes and vents, with hot and cold water supply. Call us for bids.
ADDITIONS/REMODELING/NEW CONSTRUCTION
Additions, remodeling and new construction plumbing are generally more involved and sometimes require prints and specifications so that the job runs smoothly and efficiently. Zell Plumbing & Heating can provide customers with options, estimates or plan consultations on large and small plumbing endeavors. Remodeling work is limited to plumbing , gas work, and fixtures.
